Eric Serra Biography
Eric Serra was born on September 9th, 1959 near Paris in France. His mother died when he was only 7 years old. His father, Claude Serra was a well-know songwriter in France in late 50s and 60s. Serra began to learn play the guitar at 11 years old and became a professional musician for Mory Kante, Didier Lockwood and Michel Murty at 15 years old.
In the beginning of the 80s Serra met Luc Besson who asked him to compose the score for his first short film titled L'Avant dernier (1981) and later his first feature film Le Dernier combat (1983). As he continues to contribute to every Besson film (Subway, Le Grand bleu, Nikita, Atlantis and Leon), Serra played bass guitar for French singer Jacques Higelinin studio and on stage from 1980 to 1988.
By the end of the 90s, Serra had opportunity to score James Bond's come back GoldenEye (1995) as well as Besson's The Fifth Element (1997) and The Messenger (1999). Also, in 1998, Serra finally released his first solo album titled "RXRA" both in English and French.
Since 2000, Serra worked on French films L'Art (delicat) de la seduction (2000), Wasabi (2001), Decalage horaire (2003). He also contributed to several Hollywood productions like John McTiernan's remake of Rollerball (2002) and Bulletproof Monk (2003).
His most recent work is for a western called Bandidas (2006). Serra is currently working on the next Besson's installment titled Arthur And The Minimoys.
